Open source systems management provider Hyperic is adding some new tweaks that let users add more customized screens of key performance indicators from their web app infrastructure.

The highlight is a new plug-in framework that it calls HGU, which makes it easier to build customized views or syndicate data across other infrastructure management tools using web services. Additionally, it adds a new scripting console using Groovy, a Java-like scripting language that compiles to the JVM, yet can be programmed like Python, Perl, or Ruby, which lets you automate monitoring tasks or import large groups of resources into the inventory that Hyperic HQ manages.

Hyperic is probably best known through its channel partners, like Red Hat, which bundles Hyperic HQ as part of its JBoss Operations network offering. Other partners include Mulesource, which ships Hyperic HQ with their distribution of the open source Mule ESB; Iona; MySQL; and Spring, which just announced a partnership.
