Tripwire Releases VMware Product PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Following up its announcement of a partnership with VMware last fall, Tripwire has taken the plunge and released product. The new offering, Tripwire Enterprise for VMware ESX Server, applies policies that you establish towards the virtual containers that you create with VMWare. And as part of the deal, it subscribes to Center for Internet Security updates so you can proactively update your VMware policies as exploits are identified.

Tripwire focuses on monitoring IT infrastructure for compliance with preset policies, with the idea that when something slips out of compliance, that it can be automatically or manually remedied before the situation careens out of control. Until recently, Tripwire was solely focused on infrastructure, primarily servers; but last fall it announced that it would peer into application configurations as well, with Microsoft Exchange and Internet Information Server (IIS) as the first target (ERP will come later).

Before this week’s announcement, Tripwire could monitor VMware installations reactively – e.g. you find out that a VMware partition violates a policy after the fact, and then react. The new tooling constantly ping VMware so that you can nip such problems in the bud.
